The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at The Game Awards — A New Category May Address This Issue

Whenever a significant honors show approaches, there’s always an outcry to include of new categories to honor overlooked contributions and delight the passions of fans with niche passions.

My colleague has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. The same goes for board games, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front because like all single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. This is the request: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why cinema institutions avoid this approach. However, it represents a necessary evil for the industry of video games, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies offer these award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these six categories effectively encompass a lot of ground, making space possible for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to put them. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. What category would fit them among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles released every year that have no home in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated for anything in 2014
  • A different innovative game missed out during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game got ignored recently
  • Only a few puzzle games scraped into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often small games, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most popular titles in the world and have been for many years.

The famous puzzle experience competes with famous sandbox experiences for the title of most purchased experience; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary interactive creation, developing some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay generations.
